Sadly, the world of hypnotherapy
is totally unregulated. Anyone can learn the rudiments of hypnosis and
set themselves up as a therapist.
There are many schools of hypnosis;
some are good and some are not.
Most therapists maintain high standards of conduct; some do not.
Some will have the relevant previous education; most will not.
Who can you trust? It can seem like a minefield out there!
Most people know the feeling
of security and trust that is part of the Doctor - Patient relationship.
It is based on well established professional boundaries and built-in safety
that goes with the territory.
It is important to know with
certainty that before a doctor learns how to use hypnosis he has a formidable
basis of knowledge of illness, both physical and psychological, which
underpins his therapy.
